American Mathematics Competition- Test at Friends University

Dear Mathematics Enthusiast,


Are you looking for an exciting challenge for your students who excel in math?  Friends University will be administering the AMC 10B and AMC 12B on Thursday, February 15, 2018.  The American Mathematics Competitions program leads the nation in strengthening the mathematical capabilities of the next generation of problem-solvers.  Friends University’s Math Department invites you to bring your math students to our campus to participate in this fun and challenging math competition.  There is no cost to participate, but students must be registered to be eligible for the competition.  The exam will be scheduled for the morning of February 15th.  Students will be finished before noon.  A detailed schedule will be provided later.


We hope that you will encourage your students to take advantage of this exciting opportunity on Thursday, February 15, 2018.


Guidelines for the competition are as follows:

The AMC10:

·       is for students in 10th grade and below

·       is for students under 17.5 years of age (as of 2/15/18)

·       covers the high school curriculum up to 10th grade


The AMC12 :

·       is for students in grade 12 or below

·       is for students under 19.5 years of age (as of 2/15/18)

·       covers the entire high school curriculum including trigonometry, advanced algebra, and advanced geometry(excludes calculus)


The AMC 10/12 problem solving helps to develop analytical skills in high school students that can be used in college and future careers and aims to prepare students to fill the demand for STEM graduates.  A set of practice questions is available for downloading here:


Classroom math teachers are welcome to use these questions to generate discussion among students as they creatively brainstorm to find ways to solve new problems.  Individual students can also use these as a study guide.
