Activities and learning sessions for anyone who knows, works with, lives with or cares about one or more gifted individuals! This is your opportunity to learn, share and grow!

12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. – come and go as your schedule allows

Maize is located just northwest of the Wichita Metro area.  It is easily accessed from K-96 or US-50 (Kellogg in Wichita).  If you would like more specific driving directions, please contact Leigh Johnson.

Give a few hours of your time to gain knowledge and connections with other teachers, parents and people who care about gifted children of all ages. 

  • Large group keynote presentation about compliance and meeting the state’s expectations on IEPs by Diana Stanfill, gifted education specialist with the state department of education.  12:30 registration; 1 pm start time.
  • Breakout sessions for all participants start at 2:15, with registration at 1:30:
  • Informative sessions on breakout boxes and creative problem solving!
  • An information panel by parents, for parents, about preparing your student for college, and surviving the college years.  Bring questions and discuss experiences both positive and negative.
  • A session to share information about screen use – guidelines and suggestions when considering use and limits
  • An informative session for parents about resources of all kinds
  • An informative session about camps and summer activities available for students
  • Collaboration sessions for secondary and elementary level teachers, led by experienced teachers designed to answer questions and provide information on a variety of topics.

For students:

  • K-8 – Afternoon hands on-sessions (from 2:15 to 4 pm)
  • Evening demonstrations by the MHS Chemistry Club (4:30-5:30)
  • High School – Sessions on ACT/SAT preparation tips and information; other topics of interest

Facilitated group discussion of the gifted brain

Babysitting services can be available (by request and for a donation to the club) provided by the MHS FACS department.  These services must be arranged in advance if needed.  Please mark the appropriate box on the registration form.

Anyone interested in attending is encouraged to register by April 1 to be able to influence session options!  Provide feedback on sessions of interest to you and the times you are available to attend.  Actual times of sessions will be determined based on interest and selection of sessions to attend will be made on the day of the event.

All registrants will receive specific information about sessions and more detailed information about the schedule prior to the event.

Student sessions will also be planned according to registration numbers and ages. 

Parents are encouraged to bring students when they plan to attend. 

Teachers should contact Leigh Johnson if they are interested in bringing student groups to assure space is available.

Local vendors and opportunities to experience some of the Maize High talent will be available, including snacks created by the Maize High Pro-Start students who are involved in culinary training and musical presentations by high school students.
