Nicholas Green Distinguished Student Award The Nicholas Green Distinguished Student Award is given each year by KGTC and NAGC to one student in Kansas who has shown outstanding accomplishment in any area of endeavor-visual or performing arts, academic achievement, or leadership. The award consists of a Certificate of Excellence and a $500 U.S. Savings Bond. This award is sponsored by the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) and the local state affiliate (KGTC.) The award was established by Maggie and Reg Green to honor the memory of their seven year old son Nicholas who was killed in a drive-by shooting while visiting Italy in 1994. Students may nominate themselves or be nominated by parents, teachers, students or community/civic groups. The Kansas winner will be selected in May and is expected to attend the KGTC annual conference in Lawrence this fall to receive the award publicly. Duke TIP Talent Search this is an Opportunity for students to take the ACT as a 7th grader or the EXPLORE test as a 5th grader. Students achieving at or above a certain requirement are eligible for a special award ceremony and luncheon sponsored by Duke University and KGTC.

Cosmosphere Space 101 Camp Scholarship
The Kansas Association for the Gifted, Talented and Creative will sponsor two scholarships for Level I for the Future Astronauts Training Program for the summer of 2011. The Future Astronaut Training Program will be held at the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson. KGTC will pay tuition/registration which includes room, board, model rocket, t-shirt, group photo, and all written materials. Level I scholarships are available to any Kansas student finishing sixth, seventh, or eighth grade during the current school year. The winning students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson. Applications are due March 28, 2012. The Reel Spirit Young Filmmaker Showcase recognizes achievement in video productions and provides young filmmakers an expanding, authentic audience. This recognition event is presented annually in cooperation with Kansas City FilmFest. The deadline for submissions for the 2012 Reel Spirit Young Filmmaker Showcase is midnight March 1, 2012 Reel Spirit: Young Filmmaker Showcase 2012 will include the category "Reel Spirit of STEM" sponsored by a Time Warner Grant through the Connect a Million Minds Initiative. |
